THE MISSOULA SYMPHONY GUILD
The Missoula Symphony Guild is a vibrant group of volunteers dedicated
to the Symphony, music education, and furthering the arts in western Montana. The
Guild is a fundraising and outreach arm of the Symphony Association, providing support
and conducting events to benefit the organization. The Guild also provides significant
scholarships to talented University of Montana music students each year. Membership
is open to anyone who is passionate about the Missoula Symphony Orchestra & Chorale,
music education, and who simply wishes to meet people of similar interests!

SCHOLARSHIPS
The Missoula Symphony Guild provides several scholarships to talented
music students at the University of Montana each year, and has done so since the
Guild was founded in 1956. These scholarships are awarded by the U.M. music faculty
through close consultation with the MSA Music Director.

- The Florence Reynolds Scholarship
- Named for an outstanding woman who shared her musical talent and other energy with
the Missoula Symphony Association for many years, this scholarship is awarded to
a U.M. undergraduate or graduate music major with exceptional talent on a string
instrument who is a regular member of the orchestra.
- 2010-2011 Recipient: Kevin Leiferman, cello

- The Past President Scholarship
- Named in honor of those women who have given their time and energy as President
of the Missoula Symphony Guild through the years, this scholarship is given to an
undergraduate or graduate music major who is a regular member of the orchestra.
This scholarship is normally awarded for a two-year period.
- 2010-2011 Recipient: Michael Corson, cello

- The Joseph Henry Scholarship
- Named in honor of our Music Director Emeritus, who retired in 2007 after 21 years
as Music Director of the Missoula Symphony Orchestra, this scholarship is given
to an undergraduate or graduate music major who is a regular member of the orchestra
or chorale.
- 2010-2011 Recipient: Ryan Hennessy, double bass

- The Donald Carey Scholarship
- Named in honor of our past Chorale Director, who retired in 2006 after 18 years
in his post, this scholarship is given to an undergraduate or graduate music major
who is a regular member of the orchestra or chorale.
- 2010-2011 Recipient: Sofia Cardozo, violin
|
- The Lorraine Andrie Prize
- Not a scholarship, but a cash prize, this award is given at the final concert of
each season to a U.M. graduating senior who has been a truly outstanding and dedicated
member of the orchestra. Named for one of the founding leaders of the Guild, the
winner of the Lorraine Andrie Prize is voted on by the U.M. music faculty with recommendations
made by the MSA Music Director.
